So KU has ended another school year. Summers are the best for KU staff. We can catch up on work and exhale. I'm excited b/c my web student is coming back to work full-time this summer. She and I get along really well, so it will be great to have the help and to have the company.
The weekend was very nice. Saturday morning I worked at the fine arts graduation ceremony. I work it every year and every year it's pretty uneventful, but this year one of the design graduates decided to alter her graduation gown so it was a SUPER SHORT MINI and then she paired that with some black stilletos that laced up her calves. She worked it across the stage and got a couple of cat cat calls, but mostly just attracted laughter from the audience (this was held at the Lied Center). I am so old b/c I kept thinking, if I were her mother, I would be so embarrassed! It's happened...I've aged! Anyhoo...after graduation I had the rest of the day to hang out with Andy and Gus and work in the garden. I planted some herbs and other plants (I even bought a special plant with purple flowers for Gus that attracts butterfiles...he loves butterflies). I want to plant more, more, more, but I have to space it all out. It adds up! We watched a disappointing movie Saturday night called Cache. The plot looked interesting, but nope...just a strange, French movie. To top it off, the disc from Netflix came damaged, so the very last scene was screwed up and we couldn't watch the end. So we looked up the plot online and the ending wasn't anything huge...boring, actually.
On Sunday we met Leah, Dan and Bea for breakfast at the Kansas City Farmer's Market. It was so nice to see them. There are some interesting folks at the Farmer's Market, namely this old man who sits in a wheel chair, takes drags from his cigarette, and makes these creepy puppets dance to Elmo tunes. He asks for tips. Of course Gus and Bea loved it, and we (the parentals) were cracking up at how creepy it all was. After that Andy worked all day to clean out our office and move the furniture down to our basement. The old office is going to be converted into the baby's room. It's nice to have the office space set up downstairs. Now we need to paint the baby's room and get it set up. If anyone knows where we can get a white, circular (small) rug for the baby's room, let me know. I can't find one anywhere! The room is rather cozy (small), so it needs to be small-medium in size.
I just had my 29-1/2 week doctor's appointment this morning. Everything went well. The heartbeat is still in the 150's and the baby has moved positions, so the doc thinks he/she is head down now (yeah!). I felt some serious movement last week, so I'm not surprised. I'm ever-so-slightly anemic, so I'm taking iron pills (I had to do that with Gus, too). I start going to appointments every 2 weeks now. I can't believe we only have about 10 weeks left! I'm starting to really nest, so I know it's kinda close. I'm also just getting very emotional about these last weeks as a family of three. I am really looking forward to having the baby and adding to the brood, and I know Gus will be a wonderful big brother. But I can't help but feel super emotional when I think of Gus graduating to "big brother." I want to spend as much time with Gus before Fozzy arrives, b/c his whole world is going to change! We've been telling Gus that he's soon going to be a big brother, and I show him photos of big brothers kissing or hugging their little siblings. I think he's really understanding so much now, so I think on some level he gets it. Although he still thinks the baby lives in or behind my bellybutton.
Speaking of Gus, he LOVES the song Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star right now. He sings this verse constantly, "Like a diamond in the sky" but it actually sounds like he's saying, "Oh, God Damnit, in dah die..." Andy and I crack up every time he sings it b/c it totally sounds like he's cussing. But he will ask us to sing Twinkle, Twinkle and then when we're done he'll say "Agoo?" (which means "Again?") It's awesome.
We're driving to Iowa this next weekend to hang out with the Dierks. It should be super fun!

Erin, I know how you feel about being emotional changing the dynamics of the family of three! Nest away! I hope you're feeling good! My prediction, it's a boy. Maybe more wishful thinking, so we both have 2 boys! Eli loves singing twinkle twinkle too. I love when they make up words.

That's fun Erin. I love your translation of his song lyrics. I'll keep an eye out for the white rug. It's always when you're looking for something specific that it's hard to find. Good luck.
Ditto to what Cherie said. Gus' days as an only child are coming to an end. But he'll have so much fun. Wow, only 10 more weeks, huh? Man, time flies (if you're not the one carrying, that is).
